Shopping tours

Those with cash to scorch should try a five-hour shopping tour of Kuwait City with City Discovery. Taking in the glistening gold souks, Souk Al-Mubarakiya and Kuwait's largest shopping centre, the Avenues Mall, tours are a good way of negotiating both the bazaars and the haggling process. English guides and hotel pick up available.

Kuwait City excursions

Al-Jahra

Al-Jahra, 40 minutes west of Kuwait City, is the site of the Gulf War's infamous "turkey shoot", the Allied destruction of a retreating Iraqi convoy. The town's only sight today is the Red Fort, a rectangular, mud structure near the highway. The surrounding area is pretty in spring when the desert briefly turns green after the winter rains.

Entertainment City

Located 20km (12 miles) outside of Kuwait City, Entertainment City is known the Disneyland of Kuwait with four areas of themed rides. The vast complex also has exotic gardens, a lake, a mosque, an open-air Roman amphitheatre, restaurants, a zoo and a mini golf course. Note that Mondays are for women only.
