Cairo Hotels

Hotels in Cairo range from international 5-star chains to basic guesthouses and a new wave of boutique hotels. Pride of place goes to those with a Nile view although you will pay a premium price. Several international chains are located at the Pyramids of Giza, which is only worthwhile if you can see them from your room. If you’re looking for cheap hotels in Cairo, especially Downtown, ask to see a choice of available rooms.

The Cairo hotels below have been listed alphabetically and classed into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over US$200)
Moderate (US$50 to US$150)
Cheap (up to US$50)
These rates are the starting rates for a double room per night and include breakfast but not tax (about 7%).

Cheap

Hotel El-Hussein

If you want to be in the thick of Khan el Khalili, this is the place. Overlooking the mosque Al Hussein, rooms are basic, but large. Water is usually hot, and there is a ceiling fan but the air-conditioning – when working – is noisy, and bathroom might be a little grubby. However the real draw is the huge balconies overlooking the square, a fantastic spot for watching the world go by. Service can be surly, especially for the (very basic) breakfast, but overall it’s great value.

Address: Khan el Kahlili, Taha Hussein, Cairo,

Pension Roma

Located down a quiet Downton backstreet, this is one of the best budget options. Its high ceilinged rooms with hardwood floors are clean and simple. Some have private showers, others have shared facilities. The new extension offers seven air-conditioned rooms, including four family ensuite rooms, a real bonus.

Address: Downtown, 169 Mohamed Farid Street, Cairo, 11511

Windsor Hotel

This family-run, Cairo hotel located in busy Downtown is a historic colonial house. Guest rooms are filled with period furniture and tastefully decorated, but the real gem is the Barrel Bar, offering a cosy, old-world feel with barrel chairs and memorabilia. Rooms differ in size and quality so it’s worth seeing a choice before you book.

Address: Downtown, 19 Alfi Bey Street, Cairo, 11511
