Passports
EU nationals: Romania is not a Schengen country, so you are required to produce evidence of your EU nationality using either a passport or a national identity card.
Non-EU nationals: To enter Romania, you must have a valid passport issued within the past ten years and with at least three months left, along with a return ticket and sufficient funds for the length of stay.
Visas
EU nationals: You don't need a visa for Romania if the stay is less than 90 days. Those who plan to stay longer will need to obtain a residence permit.
Countries whose citizens do not need a visa to enter Romania if the stay is less than 90 days in any 180-day period: Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, El Salvador, Georgia, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong SAR, Israel, Japan, Kiribati, Kosovo, Lesotho, Macau SAR, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Nicaragua, North Macedonia, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Timor-Leste, Taiwan, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vatican City and Venezuela.
Please note that your visits to Romania do not count towards your 90-day visa-free limit in the Schengen area, vice versa, as Romania is not a Schengen member. Romania will be a Schengen State starting March 2024.
Schengen visa holders: Romania allows holders of multiple-entry Schengen visas to enter, stay and transit in or through Romania, without the need for an additional Romanian visa, as long as the number of entries and/or length of stay has not been exhausted.

Nationals from the following countries are required to have an airport transit visa: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria, Somalia and Sri Lanka.

Schengen Visas
Romania is not a member of the Schengen Area, but holders of valid multiple-entry Schengen visas can enter, stay and transit in or through Romania, provided the number of entries and/or length of stay has not been exhausted.

Entry with pets
When bringing a pet from another EU country, the animal must have a microchip or tattoo, an EU pet passport and a valid rabies vaccination certificate (the vaccination must have taken place at least 21 days prior to travel).
If you are entering Romania from a non-EU country, please check with the consulate for the appropriate procedures.
